How does Title I work? The federal government provides funding to states each year for Title I.  The state agency sends the money to local school districts based on the number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. The district agency identifies eligible schools and provides money for those schools. What does Title I provide at my child’s school?

Additional training is provided to teachers and staff to improve teaching strategies. Teaching programs and materials are purchased to add to district curriculum and improve teaching strategies.  Parents and teachers work as a team to monitor each child’s progress and to support their academic and social growth.  Parent newsletters, progress reports, and meetings keep parents informed of how students are progressing towards state standards. What are parents’ right and responsibilities under Title I? The right to receive periodic progress reports on the child and the school.  The right to request information about the qualifications of their child’s teacher. The right to decide if the school’s Title I program is meeting the needs of their child. The right to offer suggestions for academic improvement and increased parental involvement. The responsibility to share information with the teacher about their child’s interests and abilities. The responsibility to ensure that their child attends school regularly, completes all homework and classwork assignments, and adheres to district and school behavior policies.
